This series consists of both incoming and outgoing correspondence and is arranged alphabetically by the last name of the correspondent. Correspondence that concerns official business of a university, professional organization, or the like is filed under the name of that body. Letters to and from prominent individuals and organizations are filed in separate folders, as are those of correspondents with whom Woodward exchanged more than a few letters. All others are arranged in general folders at the beginning of each letter of the alphabet. Additional correspondence related to Woodward's writings and various subjects can be found in Series II and Series III.
