Papers initially housed inside an annotated mail package which read "All in this brown bag is my good work." Contents include letters, poems, clippings, newspapers, and notes. Many of the papers are labeled with some variation of the name Karlis Skalbe.

Correspondence was originally grouped in a decorative box (photocopied and included) with a card specifying that the letters are mainly to Eugenia Filippov from her father. Newspaper pages and letters are kept in their original envelopes, when possible. Also included are medical examination cards from the United States and a book of Pushkin.
