The series contains views of houses and other locations owned or frequented by the Lewises and their relatives. The earliest images document two ancestral homes in San Francisco, but the bulk of the material pertains to the Lewises' two homes, the Cowles House in Farmington, Connecticut, and "The Castle" at Hammersmith Farm in Newport, Rhode Island. Formats include prints, negatives, color slides and transparencies, postcards, and stereo slides.

A piece of red velvet found with the Lux photographs; it is likely from the "red plush album" holding the Lux photographs that Charles Lewis mentioned in a June 1, 1938, letter to his brother Wilmarth.
