The series contains correspondence that had been kept separate from the enormous quantity of correspondence received by Wilmarth and Annie Lewis that now forms Series I in the Wilmarth Sheldon Lewis Papers (LWL MSS 20). Most of the letters here were addressed solely to Annie Lewis by members of the Auchincloss and Jennings family, her personal friends, and staff at organizations with which she was involved as a volunteer or donor. It is unclear who made the separation of these materials, but in their isolation they do set facets of Annie Lewis's life apart from the panorama of the Lewises' social and academic connections and activities.
