This series contains correspondence, writings, published works, photographs, diaries, and personal materials. Amos was a theology scholar and a poet and many of his works are included in this series. He also conducted research on his family and this series includes many of his notes, written genealogical histories, photographs and documents pertaining to his extended family on his mother and father's side as well as materials related to his immediate family. Amos traveled extensively both after World War I and on sabbatical when he was a professor. Included are photographs and scrapbooks of these travels maintained by him and his wife, Catharine. Amos's correspondence includes professional correspondence amongst his colleagues, his family's correspondence, and correspondence with friends. Among these correspondents are W.H. Auden, Also included is correspondence concerning various family members' estates, including Thornton Wilder, and guardianships of his aunt, Charlotte Niven.
