Mary Cutler stone, 1703, Charlestown, MA, slate, 21 x 22 3/4. A deeply cut stone in the manner of the provincial baroque. Attributted to Joseph Lamson of the Charlestown, MA. The emergence of the angel or soul-angel in the central lunnette of the stone markes the transformation from 17th to 18th century iconography which emphasized the joys of Resurrection rather than terrors of death. The stone is the earliest dated example of an angel in the central lunette in Greater Boston. Box 1 Bookmark Collection Context Yale University -Robert B.
