Publications, correspondence, reports, statements, and collected material document the work of the Washington Office on Africa and the issues addressed by its work. The Washington Office on Africa was founded in 1972 to support the movement for freedom from white-minority rule in southern Africa. Its activities have included the monitoring of Congressional legislation and executive policies and actions, as well as the publication of action alerts and other documentation designed to advance progressive legislation and policy on southern Africa. Supported by church bodies and unions, the WOA has worked in partnership with colleagues in Africa, the Africa advocacy community in the United States, and grassroots organizations concerned with various aspects of African affairs.

This collection is comprised of writings, correspondence, news clippings, and photographs documenting the life and work of Eleanor "Lee" McGee, including her ordination to the Episcopal priesthood on September 7, 1975. Lee McGee was one of the first women ordained to the priesthood of the Episcopal Church and an early female faculty member at Yale Divinity School, serving from 1987 to 1997 as Squire Professor of Pastoral Counseling. Her career spans a variety of work in college chaplaincy, parish ministry, teaching social work, psychotherapy, consulting and parenthood. This collection provides valuable documentation of the changing role of women in the church.

The Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective began as the "Hartford Gay Health Collective" in 1983 as a place for gay men to obtain screenings for STDs and Hepatitis. HIV testing was added in 1986 as a response to the HIV/AIDS crisis. In 1987, services were expanded to include women, and the name was changed to the Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective. Over the years, HGLHC has expanded to assume responsibility for many gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender programs and services throughout the Hartford area, including the Connecticut Lesbian and Gay PRIDE festival.

The George Allen Collection of Science Fiction was assembled by George J. Allen, Emeritus Professor of Psychology at the University of Connecticut. The collection is comprised of paperback science fiction books published from 1952 through the 1980s, the bulk published by Ace Books, and including several first editions issued by authors early in their careers. The affordably-priced "Ace Double" format was successful for Ace Books. Works by established authors were bound with those by lesser-known writers for the purpose of introducing readers to new writers and new work.

The Connecticut Society of Social Hygiene was formed in 1910 with the intent to combat venereal disease and promote healthy living through education. The group was active through the middle of 1917 when the United States entered World War I. After the war they struggled to regain their financial footing. They re-formed as the Connecticut Social Hygiene Association in 1920 in an attempt to operate as a state chapter of the American Social Hygiene Association. The group disbanded in 1921.

Wesleyan University began holding reunions for its alumni in the late 1860s. Prior to that, alumni stayed in touch with one another through correspondence. The University began compiling news and events related to its graduates beginning in the 1850s, and these collections of updates were frequently gathered into volumes distributed to class members.

Joseph Sposato was born 25 March 1912 in Retsof, NY. He began his employment at the American Velvet Company in 1927. He was a founding member of the first organized union at the company (1936) and was president of Local #110, Textile Workers Union of America (Stonington, CT) from 1940 until 1948 and elected again in 1952 until 1958. He retired from the American Velvet Company in 1980.
