The correspondence documents their personal, professional, and family networks and includes writers, poets, and collaborators. Writings include published and unpublished works by both Killian and Bellamy. Professional papers include essays, talks, and other papers documenting their work and careers. Research files document Bellamy's research on Sam D'Allesandro for Real: The Letters of Mina Harker and Sam D'Allesandro (Hoboken, N.J. : Talisman House, 1994), and Killian's research on Jack Spicer for My Vocabulary Did This to Me: The Collected Poetry of Jack Spicer, which he co-edited with Peter Gizzi. Personal papers include juvenilia, schoolwork, reviews, flyers, teaching materials, memorabilia, papers relating to Poets Theater, and other papers. Photographs include 8 x 10 prints, in both color and black and white, which mostly consist of portraits of Bellamy, Killian, and many other individuals. Photographs also include a series of photographs taken by Kevin Killian titled "Tagged," as well as general photographs of events and performances. Audiovisual materials include interviews regarding Jack Spicer, additional interviews, music, and other recordings. Baldwin, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and military affairs reporter and editor for the New York Times from 1929-1968, and editor for Reader's Digest, 1968-1976. The papers relate to Baldwin's work and interests as a journalist and author and include correspondence with many high-ranking officers of the armed services, government officials, and writers and historians, as well as other members of the staff of the New York Times and Reader's Digest. Of particular interest are the subject files of printed materials and clippings which Baldwin collected and maintained for his own use. Included in these files are a number of important reports, transcriptions, and other items, some of which are not easily obtainable elsewhere.

He also become chairman of Duke University's Department of Slavic Languages and Literature. The Betsy Jolas Papers include music, correspondence, writings, teaching materials, programs, clippings, journals, calendars, photographs, sound recordings, awards and other materials by and about the composer Betsy Jolas. The first series in the collection contains manuscript and printed scores by Jolas and by other composers (1958-2006). Some of Jolas' scores are accompanied by production notes, scenarios, and libretti, and many of the scores she collected contain annotations. The second series contains correspondence (1937-2010), both personal and institutional. Jolas corresponded with notable figures from the American and French Avant-Garde, such as Pierre Boulez, Elliott Carter, Henri Dutilleux, and Darius Milhaud, all of whom are represented in this series. The third series contains teaching materials that Jolas used in her lengthy career as a university instructor. The fourth series, Writings (1963-2009), contains similar material, and also includes a "lesson in poetics" given to a young Jolas in 1940 by James Joyce. Series five (1943-2010) consists of programs for concerts, festivals, and award ceremonies, and Series six (1949-2009) contains related publicity materials and press releases. Series seven contains pocket calendars and personal journals; the latter are restricted until the death of Betsy Jolas. Series eight (1926-2006) includes both professional and personal photos of Jolas and others. Series nine is comprised of degrees earned by Jolas, and awards given to her, including the Legion d'Honneur (1996), and the Ordre National du Mérite (2001). The final series includes sound recordings and media in a variety of formats: test pressings, reel-to-reel tapes, cassettes, CDs, and DVDs. The recordings include a number of performances of Jolas' compositions, as well as interviews and lectures. Note that this series is organized by format.

Principal correspondents include such famous Russian émigré writers as Nikolaĭ Arsenʹev, Ivan Bunin, Roman Gulʹ, I︠U︡riĭ Ivask, Michael Karpovich, Aleksandr Kerensky, Victor Leontovitsch, S. P. Melʹgunov, N. P. Poltorat︠s︡kiĭ, Leonid Rzhevskiĭ, Gleb Struve, Dmitrij Tschižewskij, V. Veĭdle, M. V. Vishni︠a︡k, Boris Zaĭt︠s︡ev, Lev Zander, V. V. Zenʹkovskiĭ, and Nicolas Zernov. Stepun was also in contact with noted German thinkers of his day, including Ernst Benz, Bernt von Heiseler, Max Horkheimer, Richard Kroner, Johannes Kühn, Thomas Mann, Zenta Maurin̦a, Paul Mildner, Carl Neumann, Ernesto Saemisch, Otto Taube, and Paul Tillich. There is also correspondence with a variety of other groups of people from his work as an editor, professor, as well as personal correspondence with friends and family.
The Writings consist of manuscript drafts, typescripts, and related publication material for a number of Stepun's major books and many of his shorter writings. All of Stepun's post-World War II books are represented here, including material for different translations. There are extensive notes and manuscripts of Stepun's lecture courses and individual lectures, papers relating to Stepun's participation in the Tolstoy Foundation and the Institut für Filmwesen, and a number of writings by such authors as V. I. Ivanov and Nikolaĭ Berdi︠a︡ev. In addition, the collection contains a number of photographs of Stepun his wife Natalía Nikolaevna Nikolśkaia and her family, and a portrait by émigré artist Sergei Ivanov.

The Hanover Royal Music Archive consists of printed and manuscript music, printed books about music, and related materials assembled by Ernest Augustus, King of Hanover, and his successors. A significant component originated in England and concerns musical activity of several children of George III, circa 1770-1837, particularly Ernest Augustus, then Duke of Cumberland, and Princess Augusta, as well as Prince George of Cumberland, son of Ernest Augustus and later Georg V, King of Hanover. These materials moved to Hanover, apparently circa 1837 when Ernest Augustus succeeded William IV as King of Hanover. In Hanover, the collection was expanded by Ernest Augustus and Georg V, and much of the present content relates to music in the Hanoverian court through the mid-nineteenth century. While most materials date circa 1770-1870, a few items extend this span from the seventeenth through the mid-twentieth century.

The papers document the life and writings of Aleksander Wat, from his early poetry in the 1910s to the posthumous publication of his work by his wife Paulina and by Czesław Miłosz. Early material (prior to the end of the Second World War) is sparse and consists chiefly of correspondence, personal documents and photographs. Among the early material is documentation of the Wat's exile in Kazakhstan. Later material includes numerous notebooks that contain drafts of poetry and prose writings, and the audio recordings that formed the basis for his memoir Mój wiek.
The papers are of interest not only to researchers studying Wat's creative process and the context of his life, but also twentieth-century Polish literature, the relationship of authors to Soviet society, and the postwar Eastern European émigré literary community in France. Wat's repeated arrests and exile are documented in his notebooks, in personal papers, and in material related to his memoirs. His relationship to the émigré circle centered around the monthly Kultura in France is documented in correspondence with Jerzy Giedroyć, Gustaw Herling-Grudziński, Konstanty Jeleński, and Zygmunt Hertz. The posthumous success of his writings is documented in Paulina Wat's Correspondence in Series I, and in posthumously-dated material in the Writings series, which chiefly relates to the editing, translating, and publishing work of Paulina Wat and Czesław Miłosz.

The collection consists chiefly of correspondence with family, friends, and literary colleagues; and writings, accompanied by related material. There are smaller amounts of personal papers, printed material, photographs, memorabilia, and audio recordings. The material documents Wilder's life and work, in particular his career as a successful novelist and playwright.
Series I, Correspondence, consists of four subseries: Family Correspondence; General Correspondence; First Name Only and Unidentified Correspondence; and Third Party Correspondence. Wilder's correspondence with family members, notably with his sister Isabel, is extensive and contains much information on both his personal and professional activities.
General Correspondence consists mainly of letters received by Wilder and particularly documents his literary activities and public reception after the success of Our Town in 1938. Correspondents include Garson Kanin, Michael Myerberg, Vivien Leigh, Louise Talma, Max Beerbohm, Vincent Sheean, Gertrude Stein, Glenway Wescott, and Herberth Herlitschka.
Series II, Writings, contains excellent documentation of Wilder's works, including holograph and typescript drafts of all of his major writings; extensive materials relating to the production and adaptation histories of Our Town and The Skin of Our Teeth; and review and publicity files for both plays and novels. The series also holds drafts of many essays and lectures by Wilder, as well as copies of writings by others, most but not all Wilder-related.
Series III, Personal Papers, includes journals, autobiographical notes and notebooks kept by Wilder; numerous awards and honors bestowed on him; papers relating to his education and career as a university lecturer; research notes on Finnegans Wake; his military service papers; and some financial and travel records. Series IV, Printed Material, consists of newspaper clippings, pamphlets, and an extensive run of theater programs for plays attended by Wilder and his sister Isabel.
Series V, Photographs, primarily contains portraits of Wilder taken throughout his life, including some of his stage appearances and a variety of publicity shots. There are also photographs of family and friends and production photographs for several plays.
Series VI, Memorabilia and Other Papers, contains artwork, other realia, and musical scores by Louise Talma and others. Series VII, Audio Tapes and Other Recordings, consists of a variety of sound recordings received with the Wilder Papers, including interviews and readings. Series VIII, Thornton Wilder Papers Addition, contains a small amount of family correspondence received after the collection had been processed.

Series II, Writings of Gombrowicz, consists of novels, plays, shorter works, autobiographical writings, and other writings. There are drafts and printed versions of shorter works, including stories, articles, interviews, and open letters. There are drafts of more significant works, including: holograph and typescript drafts of the novel Kosmos; holograph and typescript drafts of the play Operetka; drafts, with many fragments, of different Dziennik (diaries); and a typescript draft of Guide de la philosophie en six heures un quart.
Series III, Adaptations by Others of Gombrowicz's Works, contains theater scenarios, film treatments, and other material based on works by Gombrowicz. Series IV, Theater Programs, contains programs for theatrical adaptations of Gombrowicz's works. Series V, Writings of Others About Gombrowicz, contains articles, bibliographies, published letters, transcripts for radio broadcasts, theses and student papers, and material related to a special issue of the journal L'Herne, devoted to Gombrowicz, edited by Constantin Jelenski and Dominique de Roux.
Series VI, Commemorative Works and Activities, consists of obituaries and tributes issued in the months following Gombrowicz's death, and correspondence, organizational records, and printed material from commemorative events dating from the late 1980s. Series VII, Audiovisual Materials, includes both audio recordings and moving image media. Audio recordings encompass recordings of programs about Gombrowicz and adaptations of his works for radio. Moving image media includes amateur films, documentaries about Gombrowicz, and theater and film productions of Gombrowicz's works.
Series VIII and IX consist of Photographs and Personal Papers respectively. There are photograph albums of Gombrowicz for periods in Poland, Argentina, and Europe, and later photographs of theater and film productions and commemorative events. Personal Papers includes personal documents, family papers relating to the history of the Gombrowicz family, and a small number of writings by family members. Series X, Rita Gombrowicz Papers, contains material gathered by Gombrowicz's wife following his death, and is organized into subseries for correspondence, research files, writings, clippings, and printed ephemera.
Series XI, Clippings, consists of printed material, including journals, book catalogues, printed ephemera, and clippings of articles related directly to Gombrowicz and his work. Anderson's extensive writings, lectures, and conference activities provide a valuable overview of the ecumenical mission scene during the second half of the twentieth century. A substantial portion of the collection relates to Anderson's work as editor of the Biographical Dictionary of Christian Missions. He taught church history at Yale Divinity School from 1920 to 1962, serving as Titus Street Professor of Ecclesiastical History from 1936. Bainton wrote prolifically and was an authority on Luther and the Reformation, Christian attitudes toward war, Congregational history, and the history of the Yale Divinity School.

Major Figures in American Music is the core unit of Oral History of American Music. It consists of over 1000 interviews with composers, performers, and other significant musicians. The first subjects were those most fragile in terms of age and health, such as Eubie Blake, Nadia Boulanger, Aaron Copland, Harry Partch, Charles Seeger, Claire Reis, and Virgil Thomson. Among other senior composers interviewed during the OHAM's first decade were John Cage, Lou Harrison, Ernst Krenek, Leo Ornstein, and William Schuman. As OHAM proceeded, composers actively involved in their careers were included and have been updated periodically. To name a few: John Adams, Anthony Braxton, David Del Tredici, Lukas Foss, David Lang, Steve Reich, and Julia Wolfe. OHAM's program also includes oral histories with emerging young talents, with the plan to track their careers as they unfold in the future. In addition to interviews with primary subjects, the core unit includes testimonies from secondary sources about George Gershwin, Henry Cowell, Harry Lawrence Freeman, Percy Grainger, and Arnold Schoenberg.

John Adam Hugo was a Bridgeport born composer who after showing great skill with music, studied at the Stuttgart Conservatory. Following his time at the Conservatory, he toured Europe as a musician before returning to the United States. He spent several years in Baltimore, where he founded the European Conservatory and served as the music director for the Women's College of Baltimore. He later returned to Bridgeport where he stayed until his death in 1945. Hugo wrote three operas, with The Temple Dancer performed by the Metropolitan Opera in 1919. His collection is the only known group of his compositions, and includes opus numbered works, operas, and unpublished works.

The William A. Speck Collection of Goetheana: General Ephemera is an artificial collection of miscellaneous, non-book materials long associated with the Speck Collection but previously uncataloged. The collection demonstrates how Goethe and his works entered into the popular culture in the late nineteenth century and early decades of the twentieth. The collection includes a few items relating directly to Goethe, such as pens that he used and his grandfather Textor's seal, as well as items intended for the tourist market, probably purchased in the streets of Weimar around the turn of the twentieth century. Printed ephemera in the collection includes inflation money from the 1920s, or "Notgeld," printed with quotations from Goethe and illustrations from his works; advertising trade cards and other advertising materials; posters; cigar boxes; matchbooks; stationery; postcards; photographs of actors in Goethe-related roles; and wall hangings. Three-dimensional items include figurines of characters from Faust, plaques featuring Goethe's image, a fragment of his house, pressed flowers from his garden, and a lock of Schiller's hair.

Established in 1912, the African National Congress was created to provide a political avenue for the struggle for equality of Blacks in South Africa. Working in exile from 1960 until 1990, members of the ANC established foreign offices to continue the political work necessary to end apartheid in South Africa. The governing party since 1994, the ANC has established its archives at the University of Fort Hare, an historically Black institution. In March 1999, the ANC and the University of Connecticut signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a partnership to foster training, assistance and cooperation based on the principle of reciprocal learning and consultation. One of the projects resulting from the collaboration between the University of Connecticut and the ANC was the ANC Oral History Project, which conducted and transcribed 133 oral histories of ANC leaders in South Africa between 2000 and 2006.

Series I, Correspondence, consists predominantly of professional correspondence with authors, publishers, and translators, though correspondence can also be found with friends, editors, literary agents, periodicals, and organizations. There are authors' files for Joy Adamson, Hermann Broch, Max Frisch, Günter Grass, Julien Green, Donald Harington, Uwe Johnson, Carl Gustav Jung and his editor Aniela Jaffé, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Konrad Lorenz, Jan Morris, Iris Origo, Amos Oz, Boris Pasternak, and Georges Simenon. Other noteworthy files exist for Hannah Arendt, Kurt von Faber du Faur, and translator Ralph Manheim. In addition to correspondence with various European publishers, there are large files of internal Pantheon Books and Harcourt Brace Jovanovich correspondence, and with individual colleagues, including William Jovanovich, Kyrill Schabert, and Wolfgang Sauerländer.
Series II, Kurt Wolff Verlag, consists of a small group of chiefly printed ephemera, as well as a list of KWV titles. Series III, Pantheon Books Papers, is subdivided for writings, financial and legal documents, and other papers. There are drafts of manuscripts, including corrected typescript carbons of Jung's Memories, Dreams, Reflections, marked printed versions of non-English language editions, reader reports, and printed publicity and reviews. Financial and legal documents include contracts, minutes, and statements and auditors' reports. Other papers include lists of Pantheon titles from 1946-1961.
Series IV, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Papers, is subdivided for writings, financial and legal documents, and other papers. Materials include drafts, marked printed versions of non-English language editions, reader reports, printed publicity and reviews, photographs, and lists. There are corrected drafts of manuscripts by Bryher, Günter Grass, Uwe Johnson, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Henry Michaux, and others. Financial records include contracts and royalty statements from 1981-1993.
Series V, Writings, is subdivided for the wiritings of Kurt Wolff, Helen Wolff, and others. There are several essays by Kurt Wolff on writers and publishing that appeared as radio broadcasts in the early 1960s. Subjects include Expressionism, Carl Sternheim, Franz Kafka, Karl Kraus, Lou Andreas-Salomé, and Franz Werfel. The writings of Helen Wolff include corrected typescript drafts of articles on publishing and translating and drafts of commemorative reminiscences on authors, friends, and colleagues, including translator Richard Winston. The writings of others include clippings and printed versions of articles.
Series VI, Subject Files, consists chiefly of clippings on writers and publishers and Series VII, Personal Papers, consists chiefly of printed ephemera.

The papers document the multitude of activities and involvements pursued by John R. Mott in over seventy years of working life. General correspondence, 1886-1955, comprises nearly half the bulk of Mott's papers, and includes letters to and from prominent American governmental leaders, philanthropists, international political, social, and religious leaders. Family papers and correspondence provide valuable biographical and genealogical information as well as revealing another dimension of Mott's life, his role as a devoted son, brother, husband, and father. John R. Mott was born on May 25, 1865 in Sullivan County, New York. His higher education was pursued at Upper Iowa University, Fayette, Iowa (1881-1885) and at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York (Ph.B., 1888: Phi Beta Kappa). He received honorary degrees from Yale, Edinburgh, Princeton, Brown, Toronto, and other universities. He served as administrator and leader of various organizations including the Young Men's Christian Association, Student Volunteer Movement for Foreign Missions, World Student Christian Federation, Foreign Missions Conference of North America, International Missionary Council, Interchurch World Movement, Institute of Social and Religious Research, and the World Council of Churches. In 1916, Mott was a member of the commission assigned to negotiate a settlement with Mexico. In 1917, he participated in a special diplomatic mission to Russia headed by Senator Elihu Root. Mott was co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1946. During his career, he was officially honored by the governments of the United States, France, Italy, Japan, Poland, Greece, Jerusalem, Siam, Sweden, China, Czechoslovakia, Norway, Hungary, Estonia, Portugal, and Finland. Mott died in Orlando, Florida on January 31, 1955.

The World's Student Christian Federation was created in 1895 to fulfill its founders' vision of an international student Christian movement which could encourage and coordinate the work of existing national student Christian movements, as well as stimulate the formation of unified student movements in countries where they did not exist.

The Katherine S. Dreier portion of the collection contains correspondence between Dreier and artists and friends (including Constantin Alajalov, David Burli︠u︡k, Marcel Duchamp, Wassily Kandinsky, Man Ray, and Ted Shawn); and art-related organizations (including the Arts Club of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art).
There is some correspondence regarding art purchases and the packaging and shipping of art, such as that with George F. Of, Inc.; W. F. Collins & Co.; and W. S. Budworth & Son. There is a large amount of correspondence between Dreier and various departments at Yale (especially the Yale Art Gallery) regarding the transfer of the Société Anonyme's art collection to Yale. The collection contains manuscripts and notes for Dreier's articles, lectures, and books; her early diaries; and a brief autobiographical account; as well as some writings by others. There are subject files regarding organizations with which Dreier was affiliated, including the Cooperative Mural Workshops, the Long Ridge Women's Club, and the Society of Independent Artists.
The collection contains exhibition catalogs that were annotated by Dreier; exhibition catalogs of one-artist shows of Dreier's artwork; and material regarding Dreier's personal finances. There are many photographs of Dreier's artwork, of Dreier and her friends and family (including scenes in China from a trip that Dreier took, 1921-22), of artists and their artwork, and of exhibitions. There is also some original artwork by various people, including sketches, drawings, prints, and watercolors. The Dreier Family papers contain correspondence, poetry and skits, and writings (including a diary by Dreier's sister, Dorothea).
The Société Anonyme portion of the collection includes correspondence with members, potential members, and businesses; a logbook regarding exhibitions; financial material, including a checkbook; by-laws and amendments, and drafts of the certificate of incorporation; membership lists and cards; lists of officers and committees; meeting minutes; ephemera regarding exhibitions, lectures, and musical events sponsored by the Société; scrapbooks; and files of background material about artists represented in the published catalog of the Société Anonyme's art collection at Yale.

The Western Film Collection consists of press kits, pressbooks, posters, photographs, souvenir programs and other materials that were distributed by film producers to movie theater operators to promote their films. The Western films represented in this collection are Western genre films, films set in the trans-Mississippi West, and/or films with Western characters. Press kits typically include advertisements prepared for submission to newspapers and magazines; black-and-white photographs of scenes from the films with credit information; printed booklets called pressbooks containing information about the film, actors, and other personnel; and posters for lobby display. Early press kits were called "campaign kits." While the majority of press kits included in the collection consist of foldered printed material, there are several examples of electronic press kits on compact disc. The Buddy Holly Story pressbook contains a "flexi disc" recording bound in.

The bulk of the collection consists of urban and rural scenes and cityscapes, primarily in Vienna, as well as other Austrian cities and towns and some cities in Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Subjects of prints and drawings include churches, buildings, public works, palaces and castles, public squares, parks and gardens, and train stations in Vienna. Also included are general Vienna city views and depictions of towns, suburbs, and districts in and around Vienna and throughout Austria. The collection also includes printed documents with manuscript signatures, illustrated narrative scenes, a few portraits, and some unidentified images. Identified artists include Rudolf von Alt, W. H. Bartlett, Robert Batty, Tranquillo Mollo, and Jos. Trentsensky. Many prints include hand coloring.

The Edmond Pauker Papers consist of manuscripts, chiefly by Pauker's client, Ferenc Molnár; business files including correspondence, contracts, financial papers, and reviews and publicity materials for plays and other works by Pauker's clients; and a small amount of personal papers. The Molnár manuscripts, mainly typescripts, include dialogues and sketches, novels, plays, stories, and other works. The business files contain contracts for works by Pauker's clients that date mainly from 1924-1958. The bulk of the other business records, including correspondence, dates from 1951 to 1958. Correspondents include authors, playwrights, movie studios, theater organizations, and agents. Personal papers consist for the most part of bills and receipts that document Pauker's personal financial transactions in the 1950s.
