Abstract

Russell Fryer served in the navy on the USS Washington from 1940 till the end of the war. He mainly fought in the Pacific, but did go to Europe to help the British before going to fight in Guadalcanal. He fought in the island-hopping battles such as Iwo Jima, but was lucky to not have fought at Midway. In this interview, he talks about being on the USS Washington, the battles he fought at, his feelings on the war etc. An interesting thing about the ship he was on was that it was the only American ship to not be attacked by Kamikazes. The recorder ran out of space before the end of the interview.
