Although the plan to turn Hearthstone into a walled garden was approved in 2016, as of March 2019 nothing has been done to the property. The castle is a stone shell with a huge pile of rubble inside. Most of the shingle-style outbuildings are gone; only the water tower and mechanical shed remain. Looking at the grounds now, there is no indication that any of the other outbuildings ever existed. It is unknown when work will begin on Hearthstone, but if the past is any indication, it probably never will.
Hearthstone has been a fight from the very beginning, and is an example of what can happen to a historic property when a community does not agree on what should be done. It is a terrible case of small town in-fighting and petty disputes. Instead of having a beautiful landmark and monument to a great period in Danbury's past, Hearthstone has become an embarassing blight that most would rather forget.
