Charles D. Garlick

(September 8th, 1844- April 25, 1906)

      Charles D. Garlick was born in September 1844 in New York. In the 1868 census he is 16 years old, lives in New Milford, Connecticut where lives with his parents, Henry and Clara and his brother George, and works a day laborer. He enlisted with the 8th Regiment Connecticut Infantry, Company I as a private. The 8th Regiment saw a significant amount of action throughout the war, including the Battles of Antietam and Fredericksburg It is also documented that he was wounded during his service. After the war at the age of 26 , 1870 census records have him living in Ward 2 in New Haven, Connecticut, where he lives with his wife Ellen and young daughter Charlotte, and employed as a joiner. According to the 1880 census he moved to 49 Crescent Ave. in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he lived with his wife and four children and working as a clerk in a store. In 1905 Charles was now 61, Charles and his wife and two of their children lived on 107 Orient Way, in Ruthford, New Jersey, his occupation was listed as capitalist. Charles Died on April 25, 1906, at the age of 62. He is buried in Union Cemetery, Stratford, Connecticut.
