Edward C. Lockwood

(October 11, 1844 - May 18, 1906)

      Edward C. Lockwood was born in Connecticut, on October 11, 1844. According to the 1850 census, he was 16 years old, and lived in Stamford, Connecticut with his parents and seven siblings. He was a Private in the 13th Regiment Connecticut Infantry, Company B, he enlisted on December 22, 1861. The 13th Regiment was under the command of Colonel Henry Warner Birge. The regiment was involved in operations against Forts; St. Phillip and Jackson in 1862, They Occupied New Orleans in May 1862. They also fought in the Battle of Opequan and Cedar Creek. By the end of the war they lost 204 men during service; from wounds and disease. In his letter adressed to "friends", He writes that he is in Edward's Ferry, Maryland; and that he had been in Fairfax the day before, his company left at 6 pm, and covered a distance of thirty miles. From what could be found of him after the war, according to Marriage records, Edward married Josephine A. on March 23, 1894 in White Plains, New York. Edward died on May 18, 1906; at the age of 71 and is buried at the New Woodland Cemetery, in Stamford, Connecticut.
