Biographical / Historical

This artificial collection was created by WCSU's archive staff to collocate together Civil War materials from various collections. Care has been taken to only add materials here for which the provenance has been deemed immaterial to the artefact. Please see the "immediate source of acquisition" notes in the inventory for information on previous collections that contained some of these items.

Alfred Geddes who was in college administration for many years had in his papers a photo album noted in the Scope Note. It is likely that this was a family artefact from his wife's family but that is nowhere stated in Geddes' papers.

Processing Information

This is an artificial collection of materials relating to the Civil War. This includes recent item acquisitions, collections that were previously established and constituent parts of other collections. For materials which were part of other collections, the materials were deemed to lack substantial contextual import to the collection to which they originally belonged, and it was determined to transfer those materials to this collection so that these materials can more easily collocate together for researchers and preservation. See the "immediate source of acquisition" notes within the inventory for information regarding items or groups of items.
