Abstract

Inscribed to the Secretary of War by Maj. Gen. Robert Howze; Accompanied by 6 maps (53 x 75 1/2 cm folded to 22 x 14 cm)
Howze was in the Pine Ridge Campaign ( 1890-1891). For his conduct in a fight with the Brulé Sioux, he was presented with the Medal of Honor. (http://www.history.army.mil/html/moh/indianwars.html). He was also was a Captain of cavalry in the Spanish-American War and later was appointed lieutenant colonel of volunteers during the Philippine Insurrection. Howze was appointed Commandant of Cadets at West Point in 1905 and participated in Pershing's Mexican expedition in 1916. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Lee_Howze)
