Composition book with marbleized boards and with a leather spine cover. The pages are blue lined paper. Some pages in the book are blank and not scanned. The booklet is dated January 3, 1866.
The provenance of this book is unknown. However, it is possible that the Henry L. Pike who drew these sketches was Henry L. Pike of Brooklyn, New York (later of New Rochelle) who would have been 16 in 1866. This Pike was a store clerk (born in Ohio) whose father was a rectifying distiller and had an estate (coupled with his wife) valued at $25,000 (according to the 1870 Census). The book includes what appears to be a bookmark with name that appears to be either Orwell or Octwell. Henry L. Pike, Jr. had a daughter Lillian M. Pike (1882-1950) of Westport, CT.
