Abstract
A summary of the resource.
Mathewson first enlisted in the 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery in 1861 and re-enlisted and made Captain of Company K of the 18th Connecticut; captured in June 1863 at the Battle of Winchester (Gettysburg Campaign) and paroled in December of 1864. In 1883, he was collecting a pension for disease of the Kidneys and bowel.
