the impressive m oments o f o ur college careers . . . p erhaps t he s upposedly insig·
n ificant m oments h ave been t he f oundations
for feelings we carry with us.
As we s tand a t t he g ate o f b eginnings, we
should pause to reflect u pon those people,
those places, a nd those things o f t he p ast
w hich will stabilize o ur u ncertain f uture . . .
T he f uture is o pen to new minds, t he p ast
will give us ideas. W e will fill t he e mpty
spaces in t he society t hat calls t o us . . .

with p rofound ideas, o thers so shallow we have w ondered
how they survived, lacking direction. T hrou gh o ur contact with people we h ave co me to t he r ealization t hat all
learning does n ot o ccur within the pages o f books much is to be acquired from o ne a nother . . . g ood a nd

As i ndividuals we d o n ot a lways a pprove o f t he actions
o f o thers b ut i nterdependence does not allow us to completely divorce ourselves from o ther m embers o f society.
T he diversities o f people create t he foundations o f o ur societ y.
We look forward t o t he new a cquaintances . . . those
w ith new hopes, new dreams, a nd new ideas. A t times
we m ay b e a ppre hensive a bout o ur n ew contacts, b ut after t he i ni tial step, we will progress . . .
