T he town of Danbury was settled in the year 15and , and t he

Conspicuous among the names of i ts fhSt settlers are Thomas

Beebee all came fiom t he neighb01ing t own of Stratford
L ike many other towns in the S tate, D anbury came in for
its share of troubles during t he w ar o f t he Revolution O n
t he 26th o f April, 1777, t he British forces entered the town,

then under command o f Col Cook, who, with a comparatively small body o f men, was unable either to repel the invasion, or in any way check t he ravages of the invader, so t hat
t he streets necessarily flowed w ith blood, and property of all
kinds was a t t he mercy of t he foe B ut t he w ar o f t he Revolution over, and peace restored, t he good citizens o f t he town
set about to build up t he waste places, and to roark out, with

and trade
As early as t he y ear 1780, one Zadoc Benedict, With t he
